Kash Doll debuts an unmistakably Detroit video co-starring Big Sean

The rapper tells why it’s important to ‘put my city on’

It looks like it’s becoming a summer of Detroit music.

The Neighborhoods sat with Detroit rapper Kash Doll as she premiered her “Ready Set” music video — featuring Big Sean, fresh off his own video premiere — at a watch party at 24 Grille Monday morning.

The video, set at an outdoor racetrack, features a cameo from Beyonce’s “Homecoming” dancer (and Cass Tech alumna) Dominique Loude, who is Kash Doll’s cousin. It’s a true Detroit affair, with no shortage of Cartier Buffalos - Sean is actually wearing the pair that Kash gifted him back in June - and a quick Blade dance as the video ends.

It’s a celebration of Detroit motivation and success, and all of the Detroit appearances were intentional, Kash Doll told The Neighborhoods. “I always try to help my Detroit natives and put them in a position if I have an option to do that.”

Whenever a Detroiter is out in California with her, Kash Doll makes the effort to include them in her videos, saying, “I would just rather try to put my city on because we never had a big platform to be able to get that spotlight, so I’m in (a) position now where I want to share it.”

“Ready Set” is the third visual and single from an upcoming project from Kash, who has been gaining more traction since signing to Universal Republic last year after a contentious battle with her former label. The rapper has also released “Ice Me Out” and “Hustla,” the former of which earned more than 10 million streams on Spotify and 19 million views on YouTube.
